This course meets the guidelines as established in the Framework for Post-Residency Surgical Education and Training and is endorsed by the
Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES)
.

As a surgical innovation, minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery has
been shown to improve outcomes compared with outcomes from
traditional open laparoscopy surgery. However, these laparoscopic surgeries require substantial technical skills, creating a need for educational activities focused on this topic.

To fill this need, we have developed an educational activity focused on minimally invasive surgery using natural orifices and single-site incisions:

-  On board of Governors of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES) for the last 5 years
-  Associate Editor of the new journal, Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases and is on the editorial board of three other surgical journals
-  Has trained more than 20 fellows in advanced laparoscopic surgery

-  Director, Center for Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery, Glickman Urological and Kidney Institute
-  Performed the initial laboratory work on laparoscopic radical cystectomy (removal of bladder) and intracorporeal urinary diversion. This eventually helped in development of laparoscopic radical cystectomy and urinary diversion that is widely performed at present.
-  Developed technique for robotic radical prostatectomy and sural nerve grafting.
-  Developed a technique of nerve-sparing robotic radical prostatectomy that uses laser energy to dissect tissue with minimal collateral damage.
-  A pioneer in single port laparoscopy in urology.
-  Section Editor for Urology Journal section of laparoscopic and robotic surgery
